Troubleshooting for heater Thermo Top > 300.000
Heater fails to ignite, combustion air fan motor is operating

Option/
Additional Information
Possible cause Remedy
No smell of fuel Intermediate fuel reservoir empty Allow vehicle engine to run for approx. 30 seconds.
Replace intermediate fuel reservoir
No smell of fuel
Intermediate fuel reservoir full
Solenoid valve fails to open Perform resistance test on flame detector.
Replace intermediate fuel reservoir
Overvoltage because battery charger is connected Disconnect battery charger
Fuel supply to heater is disrupted Remove burner insert following the directions contained in the workshop manual.
Check that rubber gasket is present and securely fitted into socket.
Activate combustion air fan motor and solenoid valve using the component tester.
Fuel must emerge from rubber gasket in a pulsating flow.
If this is not the case, replace intermediate fuel reservoir.
Burner insert has been incorrectly mounted, or burner matting is worn Inspect burner insert, replace if necessary and install new one in accordance with directions contained in workshop manual
The control unit detects a fault in the following circuits: combustion air fan, circulating pump, solenoid valve, flame detector and glow plug. Fault lock-out and run-down period are initiated Locate defective component and replace.
Combustion air fan and circulating pump: Check for continuity and housing ground connection at connector X17 / X18 (check wires bk / br).
Solenoid valve: Check for continuity to ground at 6-pin connector X14 at heater Pin 6.
Flame detector: Check resistance at connector X19 wire br / br at 25°C. Resistance should be 2.9 - 3.6 Ohms. Glow plug: Measure resistance at connector X16, wire ye / ye at 25°C. Resistance should be 0.32 - 0.36 Ohm
Resistance of glow plug too high Replace glow plug in accordance with directions given in the workshop manual
Defective control unit Replace control unit / heat exchanger in accordance with directions given in the workshop manual
